Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is the first of the sacraments and it is necessary for the reception of others.

Duties of Parents:
Parents take upon themselves a serious obligation when they have a child baptized. They promise to do all in their power to raise the child in the Catholic Faith. If the parents are not practicing their faith, the pastor might postpone the baptism until he is assured that the parents are serious about raising the child in the Catholic Church. We must not perpetuate a luke-warm or non-existent connection with the church by people who simply want a baptism ceremony. Somewhere along the line, parents must decide where they stand with God and their religion.

Parishioners wishing to have their children baptized should call the parish office to arrange a meeting with Fr. Jacek and to determine a date for the sacrament

Requirements of Sponsors:
  1. They must help the parents as necessary to bring up the child as a good Christian
  2. They must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation
  3. One sponsor MUST be a member of the Catholic Church who is a practicing Catholic. A protestant may serve as a Christian witness to the baptism
  4. The sponsor may not be the mother or father of the one to be baptized
  5. Sponsors from parishes other than Holy Child MUST present confirmation from their home pastor that they are practicing Catholics

If a member of your family lives away from Holy Child Parish but wants to have a child baptized here, the parents of the child must:
  1. present verification from their pastor that they are practicing Catholics
  2. Present written permission from their pastor for the baptism to be performed in our church
  3. If you are a member of Holy Child Parish and wish to have a child baptized in another parish, you must have authorization from your pastor
